The announcement is finally official. For months, Butter and I have told you the Ram TRX was coming back. We insisted a return was 100 percent guaranteed. However, nobody believed it at the time. Funny how that works. Consequently, events proved us right once again. The horsepower numbers have officially dropped, and they are massive. Specifically, the new truck arrives with 777 horsepower.
The King Reclaims the Throne
This new 777 horsepower figure effectively craps on the Ford Raptor. Consequently, the relaunched Ram TRX becomes the most powerful production truck on the planet. However, these base numbers might just be the beginning. Sources tell me that bigger things are coming down the pipeline. Specifically, stage kits will be available to push this platform even further.
These stage kits could potentially push the horsepower numbers over 1,000. This is absolutely insane for a production vehicle. Furthermore, a primary benefit of buying this new TRX is the warranty aspect. If you utilize these factory-supported stage kits later, you increase horsepower significantly. Yet, you keep the factory warranty intact. For many buyers, this is a game-changer.
However, most buyers of these vehicles really do not give a damn about a warranty. We will tune them and do modifications right out of the gate regardless. But having the option for warranty-backed power is undeniably a strong selling point.
Stellantis Learned a Hard Lesson
Why does this relaunch matter so much? Historically, Stellantis brands stood out because they push the envelope. However, people laughed at them a bit before Project Hellcat changed the world. Back then, all they really had was the SRT8 platform. Meanwhile, Chevy did their own thing, and Ford dominated with supercharged Mustangs like the GT500.
Eventually, FCA learned a lesson from that era. Unfortunately, they messed up again recently. They brought in the electric era, hoping to pivot the brand entirely. As we have seen, that strategy was a complete disaster. In fact, they are still paying for that mistake today. Therefore, this relaunch serves as a correction to that error.
Interestingly, the company stated that we should not call this a resurrection. They insist on different terminology. Regardless of what they want to call it, the internal combustion super-truck is back. Ultimately, this pivot proves that the market demands performance, not just electrification.
The Problem for the Ram RHO
With the 777-horsepower Ram TRX back in the lineup, it creates an awkward situation. Specifically, what does this do to the Ram RHO? Who is actually buying that truck now that the King is back? I do not think many people will buy the RHO moving forward.
The RHO simply cannot compete with the allure of a 777-horsepower monster. For example, the new TRX hits 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds. For something that big, that acceleration becomes a major problem on the streets. Consequently, it renders lower-tier options almost irrelevant for the true enthusiast.
I leave the question to you. Are you interested in the new Ram TRX at 777 horsepower? Furthermore, is it a massive upgrade over the previous generation? Personally, I think the market absolutely needed this revival. The electric era failure showed that people want raw power, and Stellantis is finally listening again.
