Stellantis officially announced that Dodge Charger Six Pack production has finally begun. This marks the start of the gasoline-powered version of the new Charger. Consequently, customers can now technically go to dealerships to place their orders. However, the excitement surrounding the Dodge Charger Six Pack production launch is already hitting a major roadblock. As a result, now might actually be the worst time to buy one. Unfortunately, dealers are overshadowing the Dodge Charger Six Pack production news by immediately playing games with pricing.
Dealers Are Charging Thousands Over Sticker
We have seen this happen before. Sadly, history is repeating itself with the new Charger. Specifically, certain dealerships are already attempting to charge anywhere between $8,000 to $20,000 over the sticker price. This is happening right as order banks open.
For example, dealers like David Stanley and Matt Bowers are engaging in these practices. These represent the “usual suspects” when it comes to predatory pricing. Therefore, consumers need to be extremely wary. This is not a limited-production vehicle. Furthermore, this is not a Hellcat. It is certainly not a Demon. Instead, this is a standard production car. Trying to charge $30,000 over sticker for this is as foolish as charging a premium for a Dodge Hornet. The vehicle is already priced high from the factory. Adding a markup on top of that simply insults the customer.

The Supply and Demand Myth
Dealers often defend these actions by citing supply and demand. However, that argument falls flat here. As a business owner, I understand how markets work. Nevertheless, this situation is different. There is no actual limit to the supply of these cars. Stellantis wants to build as many as they can sell.
Consequently, this is just a short-term cash grab. Dealers will likely attempt to get away with this for the first month or two. They did the exact same thing with the electric versions of these cars. The result was predictable. The cars sat on lots. Now, they are repeating the same mistake with the gasoline Six Pack.
Killing the V8 Market Before It Arrives
This strategy is incredibly short-sighted. Previously, dealers complained loudly that EV inventory was not selling. Now, they finally have a gas engine product to sell. Yet, they are immediately ruining the opportunity. General Managers at these dealerships need to wake up. This launch is a critical test. It determines if they will make money on future products.
If dealers tax people over sticker now, they create bad blood. As a result, customers will walk away. Furthermore, they will remember this treatment when the V8 models eventually arrive. You might keep a few loyal buyers who do not know better. However, buyers with common sense will simply go elsewhere. We will buy from dealers who respect the invoice price. We will support businesses that do not scam their clients.
Finding Honest Dealerships
Not every dealer is bad. For instance, Tobin Dodge in Henderson, Nevada, is playing fair. Currently, they are not charging anything over sticker on the Dodge Charger Six Pack. This is the standard we should expect.

Overall, the arrival of the Six Pack Charger should be good news. However, greedy dealers are threatening to ruin the launch entirely. Stay patient. Do not pay over sticker. Eventually, market forces will compel these dealers to drop their prices just like they did with the EVs.
