It looks like Knight Rider may finally be roaring back—and this time, with a Dodge badge. Sources close to Stellantis say the automaker is collaborating with a major production company on a reboot of the 1980s classic, replacing the iconic Pontiac Trans Am with what appears to be a Dodge Charger or possibly a modernized Barracuda (’Cuda).
Leaked storyboards circulating online show a blacked-out muscle car silhouette unmistakably resembling the Charger’s proportions—long hood, wide stance, and that signature menacing front end. If accurate, this reboot could mark a return to American muscle for the legendary AI-powered car “KITT,” only now backed by Dodge’s modern performance identity.
The original Knight Rider series defined an era of pop culture, starring David Hasselhoff and his talking, self-driving Trans Am. Attempts to revive the show have come and gone—most notably the short-lived 2008 reboot featuring a Ford Mustang GT500—but none have captured the magic of the original. That could change if Stellantis manages to blend nostalgia with cutting-edge design and technology.
Speculation around whether the car will be a Charger or a Cuda has Mopar fans buzzing. A Cuda would deliver a strong retro callback, aligning with Dodge’s recent hints of reviving classic nameplates. Meanwhile, the Charger’s ongoing cultural dominance makes it the more practical—and instantly recognizable—choice for television.
While details remain scarce, insiders say this project could be part of Dodge’s broader media and branding push as it transitions toward a new era of performance. Whether powered by a HEMI or hybrid, the real attraction will be seeing KITT reborn with Mopar muscle.
